Blackmagic Design Released DaVinci Resolve 21 In Public Beta

Introducing the new Photo page, which "enables colorists and photographers to use Hollywood's most advanced color tools for still photos."

Blackmagic Design unveiled DaVinci Resolve 21 ahead of NAB, with a public beta now available for download. It's a big update with a long list of new features, but the main highlight is the new Photo page. This addition brings photo editing into DaVinci Resolve's powerful post-production workflow, potentially making it an alternative to software like Adobe Lightroom.

The Photo page lets you import and organize photos, and it connects with the Color page, so you can use node-based grading on stills. Users can take advantage of primary color correction, curves, qualifiers, power windows, and the node editor to create detailed and artistic color adjustments across entire projects. Multiple parameters can be adjusted simultaneously as well.

You can stack nodes in different ways to build more complex looks, tweak different parts of an image at the same time, and use shared nodes to apply the same style across a whole set of photos. On top of that, the Photo page lets you reframe and crop images at their original resolution and aspect ratio.

Other updates include new AI-powered tools like IntelliSearch for faster content searches, CineFocus for adjusting focal points, and improved tools for facial refinement. The Krokodove toolset also brings over 70 new graphics into Fusion, while Fairlight folders make it easier to manage audio tracks. Additionally, there are upgrades to keyframing, MultiMaster trim passes, layer list node graphs, and more.

Blackmagic Design also released Fairlight Live, a new software-based live audio mixer. It supports spatial audio, SMPTE-2110 broadcast workflows, and can handle thousands of audio channels. It works with standard computer audio or USB audio from ATEM switchers, and is fully customizable.

Blackmagic Design's updates don't stop there: the company also announced Blackmagic Camera for iOS 3.3, an update to its software-based digital film camera for iPhones. It adds Apple Watch support, letting users start and stop recording and monitor shots directly from their wrist, and introduces support for ATEM camera control, meaning the iPhone can now be used as a live studio camera.

DaVinci Resolve 21, Fairlight Live, and the Blackmagic Camera for iOS 3.3 update will be showcased at Blackmagic Design's NAB 2026 booth, #N2502, if you're attending the event.
