Blizzard is Constantly Discussing a Console Version of World of Warcraft

The team is considering the possibility but they're now busy with expansions.

Holly Longdale, the vice president and executive producer for World of Warcraft, discussed the possibility of a console port in a recent interview. She confirmed that the studio regularly discusses this possibility.

Longdale believes that Blizzard is in a good position to release a console version of their MMORPG, especially with the support of Microsoft, which owns Xbox. However, the producer hinted that this task is not a priority for the studio, as they are currently occupied with three expansions.

"Right now, we're focused on the Worldsoul Saga. But if that comes up then we'll reexamine things but, man, we've got enough to deal with right now," said Longdale.

"We've got these three expansions and we are so excited about them. But, yeah, of course. It would be very insincere to say that we're not, like… of course we're talking about that. We are Microsoft now."

Longdale also confirmed that Blizzard has not yet discussed with Microsoft the possibility of adding World of Warcraft to Game Pass. However, the producer likes the idea of the MMORPG finding a new audience even years after its initial launch.

The next three expansions for World of Warcraft were announced at BlizzCon 2023. The first one will be released in 2024.
