Build of Canceled Call of Duty Game Appeared Online

Future Warfare was developed by Neversoft over a decade ago.

A playable build of Call of Duty: Future Warfare, also known as NX1, a canceled game in development by Neversoft between 2011-2012, has appeared online. While you could see some footage at the beginning of the year, now you can find whole levels in good quality on YouTube.

Future Warfare was set 30 to 50 years in the future, built on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's engine.

"Joel [Jewett, the studio head] had us take the Modern Warfare 2 code and start working on a futuristic Call of Duty code-named NX1," recalled Neversoft's Project Director and then Principal Designer at Infinity Ward Brian Bright in one interview. "The problem is that the studio had no idea how anything worked in the Infinity Ward engine."

Future Warfare was supposed to be released in 2013 but was canceled in the end, and in 2014, Neversoft merged with Infinity Ward. Neversoft was also the supporting studio on Call of Duty: Ghosts, so if you see some similarities between the games, that's why.

Here is some more footage from NX1:

If you want to download it, find some info here, but I'd say just enjoy the walkthroughs online.
