Bungie Accused of Plagiarizing Art of Destiny 2's Ace of Spades Nerf Gun

The company has already contacted the artist and is now investigating what happened.

Bungie recently announced the new Ace of Spades blaster for Destiny 2, which was created in collaboration with Nerf. An artist known on Twitter as Tofu_Rabbit has accused the company of plagiarizing the fan art that the artist created back in 2015.

The artist provided multiple images demonstrating numerous similarities between the 2015 art and the newly released design. They include not only the arrangement of color blocks, stripes, and symbols but also small brush strokes and wear-and-tear elements.

Fans in the comments hugely support Tofu_Rabbit and speculate that Nerf might be responsible for the incident and not Bungie. However, it remains to be investigated and resolved. Bungie has already contacted Tofu_Rabbit, as the artist wrote in a Reddit post: "Thank you for the overwhelming support, Bungie already reached out so the right people have already seen it."

Bungie also confirms that they are aware of the situation and gather information on what happened internally and with Nerf and promises to cover the result:

Before, Bungie was accused of taking a fan's artwork and using it in its Destiny 2 cutscene. The company apologized to the artist, explaining that an external vendor that participated in creating the cutscene had mistakenly assumed that fan art was official Bungie art. The game developer reached out to the artist to offer compensation and credit.
