Destiny 2's developer Bungie is quick to sue people for cheats and harassment, but it's not as eager to pay its own debts, apparently.
A year ago, the digital artist Julian Faylona was surprised to find a piece of art obviously "inspired" by their work in the Destiny 2 cutscene explaining the origins of The Witness. Bungie then apologized, blaming an external vendor, and promised compensation.
A year later, it has yet to pay up. Faylona reminded the company about what it owns on X/Twitter: "It’s been a year and I'm still waiting for that compensation that you said will be given. Haven’t heard a word since."
Ouch. Well, Bungie's Principal Community Manager has apparently now sent an email to the artist, so let's hope the issue gets resolved soon and we won't see another reminder about the compensation in a year.
In this case, Bungie claims its vendor assumed Faylona's work was official Bungie art and based the cutscene on that, but there are more questionable decisions in the industry, like Street Fighter 6's initial logo, which was allegedly a stock image.
