CD Projekt's Adam Kiciński On the New Wave of Cyberpunk 2077 Popularity

The president of CD Projekt Adam Kiciński said that CDPR managed to change players' attitude towards the action RPG for the better saying that the release of patch 1.5 was the pivotal moment for this change.

In a recent interview with the Polish outlet Parkiet, the president of CD Projekt Adam Kiciński discussed the company's projects and, among others, touched upon the growing popularity of Cyberpunk 2077 saying that CDPR managed to change players' attitude toward the game.

Kiciński shared that the studio feels that it managed to get players to experience Cyberpunk 2077 in a different way and,  in addition, the publicly available data also reflects the change showing "completely different levels of player interest" compared to a few years ago.

Kiciński believes that there were two key factors that influenced players' attitude toward the action RPG. He noted that first of all, the success of Netflix's anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners "undoubtedly" contributed to the new wave of Cyberpunk 2077 popularity. And the other factor, which, according to Kiciński, was "maybe less visible, but no less important" for the company, was the work that CDPR's developers did to improve the game and release new updates.

CD Projekt's president noted that the pivotal moment when players' attitude started to change for the better was the release of patch 1.5 as well as the launch of the new console edition in February. Based on the first major patch, CDPR released patch 1.6, which, as Kiciński pointed out, not only brought further improvements to the game but also contained "elements connecting the game with the [Netflix's] series."

The executive said that he believes the studio is now "on a good trajectory to reverse the sentiment around Cyberpunk 2077 and fight for good results in the long term." He also stated that the launch of the Phantom Liberty expansion will be a key milestone for the company as it will "contain a lot of new content" which, according to him, is a driver of increased players' interest.
