Check Out the Latest Photoreal 3D Portrait From Ian Spriggs

The artist masterfully captured the likeness of his niece without scans or AI.

3D Character Artist Ian Spriggs, revered by the CG art community for his mind-blowing human portraits, continues to advance digital photorealism with a new lifelike character model depicting Thea, Ian's own niece.

According to the maestro, he spent around 160-180 hours setting up the portrait without any scans or AI, with Ian emphasizing that making the character's outfit was the most time-consuming aspect. True to form, the creator employed the usual combination of Autodesk Maya for modeling and Mudbox for texturing, along with Chaos' V-Ray GPU, utilized for rendering.

"A few years ago, I created a similar portrait of her brother Jasper at the same age. My plan is to make a portrait of each of them every seven years," commented Ian on the idea behind the project. "I want these portraits to be a snapshot of their personalities and experiences at different stages of their lives, allowing them to see how they have changed and grown over time."

Earlier, the author also showcased a lifelike 3D recreation of French musician Yoann Lemoine, a.k.a. Woodkid, paid tribute to the late Korean Illustrator and the creator of world-renowned large-scale works Kim Jung Gi, and imagined a female portrait with visible anatomical features like muscles, bones, veins, and arteries. You can check out all these projects and more by visiting Ian's official websiteTwitter, and Instagram.
