Check Out These Kanji Practice Materials Made In Material Maker

3D Artist Mingwei "CMZW" Lim has shared a couple of curious materials featuring kanji characters puns made with Material Maker.

For those unaware, Mayterials is a yearly challenge for 3D artists interested in creating procedural materials, hosted on a dedicated Discord server.

3D Technical Artist Mingwei "CMZW" Lim, whose work we introduced a couple of times before, has recently submitted some interesting materials featuring kanji, one of the three forms of Japanese writing adapted from Chinese characters. In the video above, CMZW demonstrated an animated material with "material" written on it, using a custom variadic node with layer input. As the artist explained, every layer is a single stroke, and sliding the uniform node would display the combined strokes in order.

Refining the kanji idea, CMZW's most recent entry was made with the "Hazardous" and "Repetition" themes and features, indeed, a repetition of "hazardous". Both of these materials are under CC0 license and made with Material Maker, a free visual programming-based tool for creating procedural materials.

Have a look at some other CMZW's Mayterials 2024 entries:
