Take a look at "Omen" – Stormy Sea, a splendid digital illustration with Hellblade vibes depicting a rocky shore being pummeled by unruly ocean waves, brought to life by Digital Matte Painter and Illustrator Sara Stanoeska. Created as a personal project for the Rookie Awards 2024 contest, this captivating matte painting was set up using Adobe's Photoshop and Foundry's Nuke, trying to capture a feeling of premonition.
According to Sara, she used a video from Pexels as a base, keyed out the sky in Nuke, and replaced it with a skydome projection of a painted sky in Photoshop. The mountains and rocks were painted in PS and then projected onto cards in Nuke. Additionally, Nuke was used to set up the lighting and fog effects and to add 3D camera tracking.
