Child of Light Creator Patrick Plourde Is Leaving Ubisoft

Patrick Plourde departs Ubisoft after nearly 20 years at the company. He will, however, continue to work with Ubisoft as an independent consultant.

Ubisoft veteran Patrick Plourde who worked on such titles as Child of Light, Watch Dogs 2, and Far Cry 3, is leaving the company after nearly 20 years of working there. According to a statement that Plourde posted on his LinkedIn page, after his departure, he's going to start his own independent creative consultancy.

Although, along with his personal projects, the creative director still plans to work with Ubisoft as a consultant. "Most of my time will be working with Ubisoft, but now I’ll have a position outside a traditional structure (with mandate cross department) and I will be able to dabble with other fields outside gaming that I had eyes on for a while without having to ask my employer’s permission," Plourde said.

Far Cry 3

In a comment to Axios' Stephen Totilo, Ubisoft confirmed it will keep working with Patrick Plourde based on the needs of creative directors and the editorial team. "We can confirm that Patrick is leaving Ubisoft but will provide consulting to some of our creative directors, at their request, and to the Editorial team on certain projects," the company said.

Throughout his career, Plourde worked on many of Ubisoft's biggest titles including Watch Dogs and Far Cry. He was also involved as a level designer in the Assassin's Creed games. After his work on Child of Light and Watch Dogs 2, he took on a supporting role.
