CityEngine 2020.1 - Procedural City Generation Got Easier
You can now important assets in USD format and more.
Esri presented CityEngine 2020.1, a new version of their procedural 3D city generation tool. The latest update adds the option to import assets in USD format for VFX and animation work, and more.
The new version also boosts CityEngine’s toolset for drawing building footprints and street layouts, featuring new snapping options. It also upgrades undo workflow and viewport display quality.
The tool allows users to set up detailed city models using simple procedural rules, import data in standard file formats including OBJ and DXF, and export in formats like FBX and Alembic.
CityEngine 2020.1 introduces the ability to import USD files, including both static models and USD assets with existing CityEngine CGA rules. You can use .usd, .usda and .usdc files, plus materials based on the USD Preview Surface shader are automatically turned into CityEngine’s native PBR materials.
