Creating Control's Ashtray Maze

Game director Mikael Kasurinen has recently joined GameSpot to discuss one of the game's memorable places.

The video is dedicated to The Ashtray Maze, one of the Control's best levels. It is a motel that has a unique structure - it twists and turns around players and the whole mood is enhanced with the help of a great soundtrack. Game director Mikael Kasurinen describes where the idea for the maze came from, and how the team at Remedy implemented something so ambitious and unique.

The idea was originally quite simple. Remedy wanted to set up a lock, something that would block players' progress. The started creating the whole thing with a basic plan you can see below.  

One of the greatest things about is this mystery that makes you wonder about its meaning and whether you can beat it at all.
