The movie is set to be an "authentic Hideo Kojima production."
Hideo Kojima's hit action game Death Stranding is getting a film adaptation. The movie will be produced by Hammerstone Studios, which previously released the horror film Barbarian and is developing the full-length Kung Fury, in collaboration with Kojima Productions.
As reported by Deadline, the movie will be fully financed by Hammerstone, with Kojima Productions US and Allan Ungar serving as executive producers. Game designer Hideo Kojima is set to be directly involved in the work on the adaptation and will act as one of the producers.
It is not yet known who will write the script and who will direct the film, but, according to Deadline, the companies want to get it into production as soon as possible. It's also unclear what the plot of the project will be but apparently, it will be a bit different from the original game's story as the movie will introduce new elements and characters within the Death Stranding universe.
"I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Hammerstone Studios," Kojima said. "This is a pivotal moment for the franchise and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with them in bringing Death Stranding to the big screen."
"We are thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to partner with brilliant and iconic Hideo Kojima on his first film adaptation," Hammerstone's Alex Lebovici added. "Unlike other big-budget tentpole video game adaptations, this will be something far more intimate and grounded. Our goal is to redefine what a video game adaptation could be when you have creative and artistic freedom. This film will be an authentic 'Hideo Kojima' production."
