Designing and Building Real Houses with AR/VR Tech
Florent Germain shared a great case of how new tech can speed up different industries.
Check out this cool example of how AR and VR can be used to construct better houses. A few years ago, Florent Germain needed to design and build a house so he decided to use VR for design and AR for on-site validation. Germain can now track it inside and out with Vuforia Engine, leveraging Model Target and Area Target to visualize in-context IoT data. What a cool way to build houses, right?
"This back-n-forth between AR and VR before and during construction actually prevented a few *very* costly mistakes. But we still had to deal with unplanned issues, mostly due to small discrepancies between the 3D model and the actual building," wrote Germain. "It wasn't exactly built as designed... Some ventilation pipes were not installed where they were initially planned, changing the walls' configuration slightly. Same for some kitchen appliances or the concrete deck shape. Houses are not BIM-ready yet."
