The devs went for "stylized realism" with the game's vegetation.
Game development studio Bleakmill continues working on INDUSTRIA 2, a highly anticipated "half-like" narrative FPS with survival horror elements, delighting the fans by offering one more sneak peek at the upcoming title.
For their latest showcase, the devs finally stepped out from the eerie, unwelcoming undergrounds of Cold War-era East Berlin into the fresh air of a new game level teeming with lush vegetation. According to Bleakmill, every leaf and blade of grass in the demo was meticulously crafted from scratch without using Quixel's assets. This approach allowed the team complete control over the scale, shape, and density of the greenery, perfectly capturing the "stylized realism" they aimed for in the game's foliage.
"Just like with the rest of our assets, we want to be minimalistic and choose well where we want detail, and where we want more simple flat stuff," commented the developer on INDUSTRIA 2's vegetation. "Right now, the foliage is only flat colors, but I feel this stage is crucial to understand shape and contrast!"
Shortly prior to the new demo's release, the devs also shared a small collection of screenshots demonstrating the game's greenery:
