EA Announces the Formation of a New Battlefield Studio, Ridgeline Games

The new studio will be responsible for creating a new narrative campaign set in the Battlefield universe that will "engage fans in new and exciting ways while remaining true to the classic elements of the series."

Electronic Arts announced the formation of a new development studio, Ridgeline Games. The studio has been established to help bring a new narrative campaign set in the Battlefield universe. Ridgeline Games is based in Seattle and is led by Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto.

"It is a great honor to have the opportunity to collaborate with DICE and Ripple Effect and lead the charge on expanding the narrative, storytelling and character development opportunities in the Battlefield series," Lehto said.

According to EA, the new studio is "composed of industry veterans from around the world" and will be "instrumental to building the future of the franchise." Particularly, the studio will be responsible for creating a "narrative campaign" for Battlefield. Not much is known about this campaign, but EA claims it will "engage fans in new and exciting ways while remaining true to the classic elements of the series."

In addition to the news about the new studio, EA also confirmed that Battlefield creative director Lars Gustavsson, who has worked on the series since it started in 2002, is leaving the company to pursue new opportunities.

"Lars has dedicated a substantial portion of his life to Battlefield and is proud to have helped shape the franchise into what it is today," the Battlefield team wrote in a press release. "He is excited to pass the baton to the next generation of Battlefield creators at DICE, Ripple Effect, Industrial Toys, and Ridgeline Games."
