Early Left 4 Dead 2 Concepts Shared by Peter König

The artist showed what some of the game's Special Infected could have looked like.

Digital Artist Peter König, known for creating characters and concept art for various games and movies, has recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at some of the early character designs made for Valve's Left 4 Dead 2.

According to the latest ArtStation post shared by Peter, the artist worked at Valve back in 2008 and was responsible for designing some of L4D2's Special Infected, namely Charger, Spitter, Jockey, and Tank, and for creating one of the game's marketing images. The concepts shared by Peter demonstrate what Charger and Spitter could have looked like, as well as showcase some ideas that were ultimately never implemented. 

"At one point infected animals were a possibility," commented the creator. "Coulda been cool. I like the idea of rat man - belly erupts with rats that try to getcha. But it was too supernatural for the game style."
