Elon Musk Launches xAI
The plan is to "understand reality".
Elon Musk has finally announced he's entering the AI market. On Wednesday, his team launched an official website for Musk's AI venture called xAI. Then, Musk also decided to tweak his Twitter handle changing it to @xAI.
"Announcing formation of xAI to understand reality," Musk wrote. Little is known about the project or its plans, unfortunately. The website doesn't share much either. "Announcing xAI," the xAI homepage says. "July 12th, 2023."
"Today we announce the formation of xAI," the team wrote. "The goal of xAI is to understand the true nature of the universe."
Currently, the website indicates 12 members joined the team, including Musk specialists from companies with AI experience like OpenAI, Deep Mind, Google Research, Microsoft Research, and Tesla.
The team shared they'll have a Twitter Space with the members of the xAI team where you can ask questions. The session is set for Friday, July 14.
One of the interesting details you can find is that the xAI project is not part of Musk's X Corp. "We are a separate company from X Corp, but will work closely with X (Twitter), Tesla, and other companies to make progress towards our mission," the website states.
Among other things, Musk is busy managing Tesla, Twitter, SpaceX, Neuralink, and Boring Company. Recently, Neuralink, the brain-implant company co-founded by Elon Musk, announced it had received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its first in-human clinical trial.
