Epic Games announced that it has raised $144 million for Ukraine relief efforts. From March 20 to April 3, the Fortnite maker transferred all proceeds from in-game purchases in Fortnite to several aid groups, including the UN World Food Programme, the UN Children's Fund, and the Direct Relief organization.
Epic Games previously shared that it raised $36 million in its first day alone, and now it revealed that the final total reached $144 million which was achieved in conjunction with Microsoft which supported Epic's campaign by donating to charity all the commission it received between March 30 and April 3 from purchases in Fortnite on Xbox.
In a blog post, Epic expressed its "deepest thanks" to everyone who contributed to support humanitarian relief. "Together with the Fortnite community and Xbox, we raised $144m for Direct Relief, Unicef, UN World Food Program, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and World Central Kitchen in support of their humanitarian relief efforts," it wrote.
Epic’s campaign is just one of the several initiatives to fundraise for humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. Humble Bundle, a digital storefront for video games, raised more than $20 million by transferring its proceeds to aid groups. Nearly 1,000 games on Itch.io also took in over $6 million, and the League of Legends developer Riot Games donated $5.4 million.
