The app enables you to turn photos of real-life objects into high-fidelity 3D models.
Epic Games has announced that RealityScan, a 3D scanning app that allows its users to turn smartphone photos into high-fidelity 3D models, is now available to download for free on iOS devices.
Unveiled back in April, the app was developed by Epic in collaboration with Capturing Reality and Quixel as an easy-to-use photogrammetry tool that would require no prior knowledge in the field to get started. Now, the app is officially out of beta and can be tried and tested for free.
To get started, all you need to do is take photos of the object you want to replicate in 3D using your iOS-powered smartphone or tablet, and RealityScan will automatically assemble the model using cloud processing. From there, you can upload your model to Sketchfab or download it for use in 3D applications.
In the future, Epic plans to reveal more of RealityScan, aiming to bring more features and improvements, as well as an Android version, in 2023.
