Escape From Tarkov Caused Damage To The Industry As Extraction Shooter Is Now Everywhere, Says New Blood Interactive CEO
"I just like regular a*s games."

During the Switch 2 Direct presentation, the reveal of FromSoftware's upcoming Switch 2-exclusive title, The Duskbloods, was a big surprise for the community. On one hand, it excited players because it is almost a spiritual successor to Bloodborne, but on the other hand, it raised some concerns about its exclusivity on the upcoming console and the multiplayer-focused gameplay.
Among those who're not so pleased by this is Dave Oshry, co-founder and CEO of New Blood Interactive, publisher of titles like Amid Evil and Dusk. He was obviously expecting Bloodborne 2, and was only to be disappointed to figure out that it was an "eight-person Battle Royale thing." Recently, in an episode of the Quad Damage Podcast, he let out this disappointment directly:
"You've seen the posts, like, [FromSoftware president Hidetaka] Miyazaki's been playing Tarkov. Tarkov has done irreparable f**king damage to the game industry, because everything needs to be a f**king, what do they call it, an extraction shooter? I just like regular a*s games, but I'm old. I get it, I'm not the target audience for these games." (thanks, GamesRadar+)
It's clear that The Duskbloods, a PvPvE title with online multiplayer at its core, isn't an extraction shooter like Bungie's Marathon that's coming this September, but it seems to have some gameplay elements that combine both extraction shooter and Battle Royale.
The two consecutive game reveals from the company, Elden Ring Nightreign and The Duskbloods, have prompted some fans to worry that the company may shift its focus toward a multiplayer direction with upcoming titles. Hidetaka Miyazaki, FromSoftware's president and director for The Duskbloods, addressed fans' concerns in the creator’s voice blog.
