Esri Launched CityEngine 2025.1

The latest version of the procedural 3D city generator adds new CGA geometry modifications, Visual CGA facade components, and Python 3 in beta.

Previously, CityEngine's CGA language rules restricted geometry creation and manipulation to built-in operations, which often produced rigid forms. Now, a new generation of geometry modification capabilities allows you to transform geometry components and recombine subdivided shapes directly within CGA.

The new modify operation lets you manipulate selected portions of geometry, such as applying transformations or splits, and seamlessly reconnect the edited parts with the original mesh topology. In addition, the recompose operation for inline can be used to directly reconnect subdivided shapes. For example, splitting a surface into a connected grid and then applying modify to move the new vertices into a parametric surface.

With the addition of facade components to Visual CGA, you can create procedural models with rich facades without any coding required. The Visual CGA Editor also now includes powerful new features that make it both more capable and convenient to use.

This update also enhances Street Designer, introduced in CityEngine 2025, improving the visual distinction between roads and sidewalks and adding several quality-of-life changes.

Also, a new Python 3 scripting API is available in beta, allowing users to customize the software's functionality. This means you can integrate CityEngine with other Esri APIs, as well as thousands of third-party libraries.
