“Critique of capitalism was never the point of Fallout."
Fallout 4
Being the second most-watched title ever on Prime Video, the Fallout TV show, which received mostly positive reviews, still prompts a lot of discussion around the video game franchise four months after its launch.
Tim Cain, one of the co-creators of the original Fallout series, happened to see a comment on a video talking about the TV show. That commenter said that he (Tim) only liked the show because he got paid for it, which surprised him and made him record a 12-minute-long video to share some insights about “Capitalism.”
He first clarified that he only received a digital invitation for the TV show, while he bought a flight ticket and booked a hotel himself to attend the premiere. Then, he shared two examples based on his own experience of how people’s behaviors could have led to the changes of “capital entities” like airlines or employers.

Tim's video has brought up a lot of discussions, and people are sharing their views in the comment section. One fan has brought up a personal opinion about what Fallout is about. It reads: “To me the game struck as a critique on capitalist/corporative greed (Vault-Tec and others) and on excessive militarization, but I've seen on some articles that you have debunked this. How much of that is true?” Cain was straightforward when replying to this comment, saying:
“Critique of capitalism was never the point of Fallout. In fact, the game went out of its way to mention that other countries like China were also behaving terribly. If anything, Fallout is a comment that war is inevitable given basic human nature.”

At the end of the video, Cain emphasized his opinion about what each player or audience could do to make their voices heard:
“If you want companies to care, vote with your wallet. It’s the simplest, most effective way of doing it.”
