Fallout: London Dev Plans to Launch an "Indie Games Company"

The modding team behind much loved Fallout: London decides to go indie. This way, they don't have to "speak to anyone above us."

Fallout London

The much-anticipated Fallout: London has been launched for over half a month now. Despite some game crash issues reported, like the "train crash crash" that bothered many, the DLC-sized mod has been well received. Recently, Dean Carter, project manager at Team FOLON, the team behind this free project, has unveiled their plan to form an indie company.

In the interview with BBC, Carter first discussed the well-received mod and said he is “very happy about it at the moment” seeing players enjoy it. It is widely known that the development of the mod started in 2019 and lasted for five years, and it was launched to be a completely free game. Carter has admitted that players who enjoyed playing the game “have donated to us.” He continues to explain the current situation faced by the team (thanks, PCGN):

“As much as I love the fact that this is a free project – we can offer this thing for free for all the community – free doesn’t pay our bills.”

Fallout London

If we look back on the launch of Fallout: London, the launch was met with some issues as the scheduled April launch was interrupted due to compatibility issues caused by Fallout 4's sudden next-gen update, which was a huge disappointment for both players and the dev team. That’s probably one of the reasons why the team would like to “hopefully” form their own company, which would allow them to focus on their work without worrying about outside factors:

"We should hopefully launch our own indie games company which will allow us to come up with our own ideas, create our own games, and work [...] without having to speak to anyone above us, such as Bethesda, or anything like that.

Fallout London has been a great springboard for [this] because we’ve worked with people now, we know what the community seems to like, and we’ve got this great platform where we can talk to [the community].”

The team would continue supporting Fallout: London and work on bringing new content to the project “until at least the end of the year.”
