Foundry Released Mari 6.0 in Alpha

Mari's third-party libraries have been upgraded to the versions specified by the VFX Reference Platform CY2022 and its USD export workflows have been extended: Mari 6 ships with export context solutions for Arnold.

Foundry has released Mari 6.0 in alpha. The new version of the 3D texture painting software extends the USD export workflows, so you can now export a full USD Look file that contains both a USD Preview Surface shader and your chosen vendor shader.

In this alpha release, only Arnold is supported to be used as a readily available example of how to generate a complete USD Material right from the Mari Project.

You can also export USD looks with material assignments based on Mari’s interactive selection groups. Drag and drop selection groups onto the material assignment in order for materials to automatically assign to the correct face sets within the exported USD look. This change removes the need to reassign materials in other DCC software.

What's more, Mari's third-party libraries have been upgraded to the versions specified by the VFX Reference Platform CY2022. You can find the new versions along with the list of changes here.

Mari 6.0 is available for anyone with a commercial Mari license. The Individual license costs $68/month or $689/year.
