Fully Custom Rigging System For Faster & Lighter Character Performance

Marko Šašić is working on RigX.

MetaHumans come at a cost: they require huge rigs, heavy scenes, and slow iteration. However, this custom rigging system aims to change it by making animating, reviewing, and delivering character performances much faster and lighter. According to Marko, RigX's complete and optimized pipeline is ideal for game and movie production.

RigX is scalable for projects of any size and allows easy retargeting, enabling you to transfer hero-level characters' quality to NPCs or lower-tier characters. Also, it supports seamless switching between creatures and humans.

The Maya integration is now complete, with Unreal and Unity coming next. In the video above, you can see a custom alien head imported and linked to a cheek_blow expression, triggering instant character switching. The animation runs in real-time with no manual tweaks, and characters swap mid-animation without breaking flow. Motion mixing stays smooth, and even live edits, like blinking, can be done.
