Gaea 3.0 Now In Development
Learn about the new terrain-building tools, simulation features, 2.7D displacement system, and much more.
Gaea 3.0, the next major version of the popular terrain creation tool, is now in active development and is set for release next year. With this release, terrains are no longer limited to a single tile. It adds true world-space workflows, enabling artists to design and navigate vast, continuous landscapes powered by the new TOR Engine 3.0.
Gaea 3 will also expand the software's simulation features, including a sand solver capable of everything from fine surface drift to kilometre-scale dunes, driven by realistic wind physics.

Several advanced snow tools are also expected to arrive alongside a new river simulation system, which combines manual and procedural approaches to shaping rivers:
Gaea 3 is set to introduce Vector Tools, enabling long-awaited precision drawing for rivers, lakes, roads, envelopes, and more. Additionally, it debuts a 2.7D displacement system, designed to "let you break out of the 2.5D space while still allowing the terrain to be repackaged as 2.5D data, preserving fully agnostic heightfields".

Gaea 3 is expected to bring a wide range of improvements, including progressive terrain previews that display low-resolution results almost instantly, updates to Mixer, a refined user interface, new integration plug-ins, and much more.
Gaea 3 is being developed in parallel with the ongoing Gaea 2.0 releases. Learn what that means, explore the roadmap, and help shape the future of Gaea 3 here.
