Get This Asset For Encoding Glitches In Unity Post-Processing Effects

Apply the effect over the whole screen, specific objects, or even UI. Now with real datamoshing!

If you've ever wanted to add real H.264 encoding glitches to your project, check out this asset made by Jolly Theory that supports both Unity URP and Built-in.

Originally inspired by Ompuco's amazing work, this post-processing effect faithfully replicates the artifacts and distortions found in block encoding techniques. It's very simple to use: just add to your camera or render pipeline and adjust parameters to unleash your creativity.

JPG – Bitcrunching/Datamosh Effect can be applied over the whole screen or selected objects and even over UI, taking about the same performance hit as FXAA anti-aliasing or SSAO on low.

The latest update introduces motion vector-based datamoshing, allowing to replicate the effect of lossy block encoding artifacts in motion called datamoshing. There are several options to modify:

  • Control the size of the encoding blocks (4x4/8x8/16x16)
  • Bring out the lossy nature of the encoding with RGB Crunching
  • Oversharpen the image if you're going for a more deep-fried look
  • Gracefully lerp the effect in and out with a special Intensity parameter that lerps all others
