Ghost of Tsushima Dev Sucker Punch Celebrates 25th Anniversary
Sly Cooper, inFAMOUS, and Ghost of Tsushima developer Sucker Punch Productions turns 25.
Sucker Punch, the Seattle-based studio that is best known for creating character action games for PlayStation such as Sly Cooper, inFAMOUS, and Ghost of Tsushima, celebrates its 25th anniversary.
The company shared the news via its official Twitter account thanking fans for their support over all these years and sharing its appreciation for the work of every former and current employee as well as expressing its gratitude to PlayStation.
While the studio is now known for its PlayStation titles, it actually started by developing games for Nintendo – the very first game developed by Sucker Punch was a 1999's platformer Rocket: Robot on Wheels that was published by Ubisoft for Nintendo 64.
The next Sucker Punch project titled Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus was released on PlayStation 2, followed by by three sequels, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. The games were later released together as The Sly Collection, a remastered port of all three games on a single Blu-ray as a Classics HD title for the PlayStation 3.
The developer later reinvented itself with the open-world superhero series inFAMOUS for PS3. Following the success of the first game and later its sequel, Sucker Punch, which had been Sony's second-party developer for over a decade, was eventually acquired by the Japanese giant.
Sucker Punch's most recent title, a 2020's action-adventure game Ghost of Tsushima, is the biggest studio's hit so far – it was well-received by both players and critics and has sold over 9.73 million copies.
The game is now being adapted as a movie with John Wick director Chad Stahelski developing it. It is also believed that the studio might be currently working on a continuation of Jin Sakai's story, though the developer hasn't made any official announcements yet.
