Devcom announces their first speakers for the Devcom Developer Conference 2021 and a new partnership with the IGDA to host the first GIGA Awards.
The IGDA is partnering with Devcom to host the first Global Industry Game Awards (GIGA), peer-determined awards in celebration of the contributions of discipline teams and individuals. Game development is a cutting-edge industry of technology, art, and innovation that is of significant cultural importance, and the contributors in the fields within it will be celebrated through these awards.
These awards will be granted to the teams and individuals that are particularly outstanding in their fields for their work on titles released and other ongoing efforts in 2020. It will award specific teams from recent releases for their contributions.
The award show, to be hosted during Devcom on Friday, August 27, will reveal the winners as selected by a diverse array of game industry professionals.
To fill an absence of in-game awards, which often value the accomplishments of studios over individuals and their teams, GIGA has seven categories and dozens of subcategories to celebrate the people involved in every aspect of a game’s creation.
This year, GIGA nominees include developers who worked on titles including Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, The Last of Us Part II, Cyberpunk 2077, Hades, Ori, and the Will of the Wisps, and other critically acclaimed and popular games.
