Google is Working on a New OS "With AI at the Core"

The tech giant's long-term plan seems to be shifting Google entirely from ChromeOS to a new system.

According to Google's recently discovered job posting on LinkedIn, the tech giant is now working on an entirely new operating system, with their long-term plans apparently being to fully replace ChromeOS with the novel platform.

According to the now-disabled – though still accessible via The Wayback Machine – vacancy for a "Senior Product Manager, Android, Laptop, and Tablets," first spotted by Android Authority, the new OS has a name – or possibly a codename – Aluminium, is based on Android, and has "artificial intelligence at the core."

"The team is responsible to drive ChromeOS and Aluminium (e.g., Android) platforms and devices," the posting says, which, together with the job title itself, suggests ALOS is being prepared not only for phones and tablets but for PCs as well.

Most interestingly, the list of responsibilities notes that the hire will need to "develop and maintain a product/portfolio roadmap that addresses deliverables and strategy that transit Google from ChromeOS to Aluminium with business continuity in the future," indicating Google is likely planning to fully replace the existing system with the new one going forward.

So, what do you think about Google's new OS? Will it be able to compete with Windows, Linux, and Mac on laptops and computers? Should we be worried about the "artificial intelligence at the core" part? Share your thoughts down in the comments!
