Grab This Free Scale Armor Setup Demo For Blender 4.0+

Cartesian Caramel enters 2024 with an exciting new project.

Cartesian "Bbbn192" Caramel, a renowned 3D Artist and Animator known for producing mind-blowing simulations, visual effects, and animations on an almost daily basis, has entered 2024 with an exciting new project set up in Blender.

In an impressive display of creativity, the author unveiled a marvelous scale armor effect that makes it look like sturdy dragon-like scales appear on a human body. According to the artist, the orientation of scales is controlled via the normal and UV tangent (custom nodegroup), while their scale uses the face area. As you may have already guessed, the project was achieved with the help of Blender's Geometry Nodes toolset.

And here's a node graph behind the setup:

Furthermore, the artist has made the demo for making evenly distributed scales on a surface available for free via Gumroad.

And here's a detailed breakdown showing how the final result was achieved:

Earlier, the artist also demonstrated a Geometry Nodes-based rigging system, a recreation of the timeline collapse effect from the Loki TV series, a method for deforming fractured objects in Blender, an amazing procedural spider robot animation, a neat fence-melting effect, a stunning branching paths VFX, a delicious baking bread animation, a fully-functioning custom machine learning algorithm made with Geometry Nodes, a cool-looking robotic cable arm, fantastic LEGO assembly effects, and more. You can check out all of these projects and more by visiting the author's Twitter page.
