Frank O'Connor has held numerous roles over the span of two decades working with the Halo franchise.
Frank O'Connor, who had been a longtime developer for the Halo series, has left Microsoft after a 20-year tenure at the company.
Speculations about Frank O'Connor's exit started circulating after fans noticed that his LinkedIn profile no longer listed him as a Microsoft employee. Upon inquiry by Axios's Stephen Totilo, Microsoft confirmed that O'Connor has indeed left the company.
"We thank Frank for his numerous contributions to the Halo franchise and wish him well going forward," the company's statement reads.
Frank O'Connor has been an integral part of the Halo franchise since its inception at Bungie. He began his career as a community manager for the first three Halo games and its two spinoffs, Halo: Reach and Halo 3: ODST. Later on, he joined 343 Industries as the franchise director.
O'Connor's exit from the Halo franchise comes shortly after Joseph Staten's departure. Staten was brought in to work on the problematic Halo Infinite project in 2020, and now he has announced that he will be leading the development of a AAA game at Netflix Games.
343 Industries has also seen a series of high-profile exits recently, including studio founder Bonnie Ross, multiplayer director Tom French, engineering director David Berger, art director Nicolas Bouvier, and design lead Jerry Hook.
