Helldivers 2 Faces Server Issues, As the Dev Didn't Expect the Game to Be That Successful

The studio apologizes for the issues and promises to fix everything as soon as possible.

Released on February 8, Helldivers 2 has been facing some serious issues, as it seems that neither the developer, Arrowhead, nor Sony expected the game to be this successful.

Since this fast, frantic, and ferocious third-person shooter was launched, players saw numerous problems connected to crashes, matchmaking issues, and login troubles. While it surely indicates that Helldivers 2 has seen a strong start, currently topping Steam's sales charts in the US and globally, it's still annoying for players to have all these problems.

However, it seems that the whole situation is getting a little bit better, as the studio's CEO Johan Pilestedt mentioned in a recent update.

"Thank you for your patience during the server maintenance. With it, we deployed three "rapid-fixes" aimed at improving the situation with rewards often not being handed out properly, login-issues, and server capacity," wrote Pilestedt.

In summary of the CEO's update and explanation of the issues, Helldivers 2 rapidly reached its server capacity upon release. The developer then increased the total capacity from 250,000 to 360,000 players, but even that expansion was insufficient as the number of players exceeded the limit within just 5 minutes.

Due to the fast-growing audience, players may continue to face difficulties accessing the game, receiving rewards, participating in democratic co-op gameplay, and engaging in value-based matchmaking.

Arrowhead apologizes for the unexpected surge in players and will be working on fixing the game's issues after taking a brief break.

"I know the progression issue is frustrating, especially for newer divers that want to unlock sweet gear. For now, please once again accept our sincere apologies for the issues you're facing and rest assured, we're doing our utmost to make it right. In order to do so, right now it is crucial that our team gets some sleep and we will be back at this again in a few hours," Pilestedt ended the statement.
