Here's How to Simulate a Lifelike 3D Skirt in Blender

npr2021 demonstrated the recently released BoneX add-on in action.

3D Artist and Animator known only as npr2021 has recently shared a mesmerizing demo showcasing how you can utilize Oimoyu's recently released BoneX add-on for Blender to set up a lifelike skirt for your character animations.

In case you missed it, BoneX was introduced by 3D Artist and Add-on Creator Oimoyu earlier this month. Driven by the PhysX physics engine, this plug-in helps you create bone physics animation in Blender 3.6 and higher by generating stable rigid body simulations. Moreover, the tool enables you to modify the properties of the rigid body and set its connection stiffness, damping quality, etc. to achieve the physical effects you want.

Eager to test out the new add-on, npr2021 acquired BoneX and employed its capabilities to easily rig a somewhat realistic skirt for a digital model of Frieren. "Basically, you just select the bones and press the "C" key, so it's easy to set up. There are still some penetrations, but since it's bone-based collision detection, I think it will be fine if I increase the density of the bones," commented npr2021. Back in March, Oimoyu also shared Easy Envelope, a neat add-on for Blender that expands the capabilities of the software's Envelope Weights and allows you to easily weight meshes with complex structures, such as cloaks, multi-layered skirts, hair composed of meshes, and such.
