Hideo Kojima's Upcoming Titles Got Delayed Due to SAG-AFTRA Strike

As we enter the new year, some undealt event from 2024 still has an effect on the development of existing titles, as well as upcoming ones. Hideo Kojima, the renowned Japanese game designer behind several titles of the Metal Gear series and the creator of the Death Stranding franchise, shared that his upcoming horror game, Overdose, has faced delays due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

In a tweet posted on the last day of 2024, Kojima looked back on the progress of the projects he's been working on. When it comes to OD, namely Overdose, a UE-powered horror announced in the last month of 2023 and is being developed in collaboration with Xbox, he said, "We developed the game and had actor and environment scanning. In the second half of the year, scanning and filming were suspended due to the SAG strike."

Overdose is not the only project by Kojima that has been affected by the strike, as Physint, an upcoming stealth title, also got into some trouble. He added, "Casting was also suspended for Physint due to the strike. We hope to resume next year." 

But it's not all just bad news. Death Stranding 2, the sequel to the 2019 Death Stranding game slated for a 2025 release, seems to be unaffected. Kojima said, "In the summer, we started to play and build up the game." The game received the first gameplay trailer in February 2024, which showcases lots of cutscenes and gameplay footage, including scenes of Sam fighting bosses. It is said to feature the most advanced photo mode ever. 

This round of SAG-AFTRA strikes started in July 2024 and is still ongoing. Half a month ago, Riot Games announced that League of Legends PC would temporarily switch to English skin VO as the strike continues.
