Highly Detailed 18th-Century Attica Folk Costume Made in 3D

Lead Artist and Art Director Thomas Makryniotis has created a mind-blowingly realistic 18th-century Attica folk costume in 3D, using Substance 3D Designer for the materials.

On ArtStation, he shared a breakdown of how he made the outfit from this region of Greece. First, he gathered references, made base patterns in CLO, retopologized the project with the Retopo Planes add-on for Blender, and id the UV layout in Maya.

For the textures, he went to Abode's AI tool Firefly to get some ideas and proceeded to Substance 3D Sampler for blocking and a general understanding of what should be changed. The materials were applied in Substance 3D Painter.

After the design was done, Makryniotis used ZBrush for sculpting, Adobe Illustrator for jewelry patterns, and then turned 2D into 3D in Blender. The texturing was done with Photoshop, Substance 3D Sampler, and Substance 3D Designer.
