According to Warner Bros. Discovery's CEO David Zaslav, Hogwarts Legacy has surpassed $1.3 billion in revenue, solidifying its position as the fastest-growing game of 2023.
Hogwarts Legacy has exceeded $1.3 billion in revenue, making it the fastest-growing game of 2023, according to Warner Bros. Discovery's CEO David Zaslav.
The head of the company announced the news during SVB MoffettNathanson's Inaugural Technology, Media and Telecom conference call a few days ago (via Seeking Alpha), adding that the management's decision to grant the developers additional time for game development was the right move.
According to him, scrapping the initial 2022 release plan for Hogwarts Legacy and opting for a 10-month delay allowed the developers to create a high-quality product that not only achieved significant financial success but also met the expectations of the audience.
"We also have this philosophy at the company of no content before its time. The Hogwarts game, that was set to launch 10 months before, but it wasn't ready. Let's get it right. Spend more money, get it right," Zaslav said.
"We launched it, and we generated over $1.3 billion with the fastest-growing game this year. We don't want to put a movie out or a game out unless we think it's our best work. Even if we do that, half the time or 2/3 of the time, it's not going to work. But that's the new cultural philosophy of the company. We're a storytelling company. The best creatives fight to make our content the best it could be."
Earlier this month, Warner Bros. disclosed that the retail sales alone for the game amounted to over $1 billion. These figures do not include digital sales, which make up approximately half of the total game sales. Additionally, it is important to note that these sales figures likely do not encompass the sales of Hogwarts on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as these versions were launched in early May.
Hogwarts Legacy is now available globally on PC and consoles, with a Nintendo Switch release planned for later this year.
