Huawei Develops a Smartphone with a 3D Camera

The company patented an unusual 3D camera system that allows scanning human faces and performing facial and skin analysis.

Huawei is on the way to revolutionizing the smartphone camera system developing a smartphone with a 3D camera. As reported by LetsGoDigital, the company has patented its unusual camera system through the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

As we can see in the concept renders, the multi-module block is made in the form of a ring with optical components (that include image sensors) located in the upper, left, and right parts of it. A dual-LED flash is installed at the bottom. In the central part of the ring, there is a round color display that performs the functions of a viewfinder during photo or video shooting.

The proposed system is designed to create a 3D model of the user's face and perform facial and skin analysis assessing the structure of the skin. In particular, the system is able to scan a human's face collecting the condition of pores, color tone, redness, acne, wrinkles, etc. The accompanying software will be able to analyze the collected data and make recommendations for improving the condition of the facial skin. The system will be able to carry out the traditional photo and video shooting as well.

So far, the camera system exists only in patent documentation and Huawei hasn't disclosed its plans to bring it to the commercial market.
