Just yesterday we reported that Digital Bros Group joined a long list of companies laying off their employees for the sake of aligning with the evolving competitive landscape and ensuring optimal operational efficiency. Here's another company – Humble Games that confirmed the restructuring process and became the latest to announce the layoffs.
"Yesterday was a difficult day for Humble Games and we can confirm that we had to say goodbye to valued colleagues. Like many companies this year, we have experienced trends that required this restructure in order to ensure our long-term success," shared the company with Sports Illustrated.
Humble Games, the publishing arm of Humble Bundle, traces its origins back to 2010 when it started as a charitable initiative offering affordable collections of indie games. Intended as a one-time event, its success led to the creation of additional bundles and the establishment of a digital storefront. In 2017, Humble Games emerged as a significant investment, supporting games of all sizes. It provides a comprehensive range of publisher services, including porting, marketing, localization, and other crucial support for developers navigating the global games market.
As for now, the exact number of employees affected and the specific reasons for the layoffs were not disclosed. The company cited shifting "trends" in the game industry as a contributing factor. The news of the layoffs was delivered during a team meeting on Monday, November 13, impacting numerous employees. While Sports Illustrated confirmed that "several" employees lost their jobs based on LinkedIn updates, the full extent of the changes at Humble Games remains unclear.
