Jack Black has expressed his interest in a Red Dead Redemption movie and shown admiration for HBO's The Last of Us.
The well-known comedy actor Jack Black has expressed his desire to see an adaptation of Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption. According to him, this game may present even a more compelling narrative to viewers than HBO's The Last of Us.
In a recent interview with the BBC, Black discussed his appearance in The Super Mario Bros. Movie and shared his thoughts on video game adaptations. The actor said that he appreciates multimedia adaptations of video games as long as they are handled appropriately and praised HBO's The Last of Us for its faithfulness to the popular PlayStation game.
"The Last of Us was fantastic," Black said. "And what's crazy is how loyal it is to the original source material. It's basically all from the game with just a couple of tweaks. It's going to win all the awards."
During the interview, he also expressed his desire to see a movie adaptation of Red Dead Redemption, stating that its story is on par with, or perhaps even surpasses, that of The Last of Us.
"There are some great games that have yet to be explored in television or film," he said. "Maybe there's going to be a Red Dead Redemption movie? There should be, because I think that [has] just as good or [an] even better story than The Last of Us."
It's unclear if a movie adaptation of Red Dead Redemption will ever happen. Rockstar Games is careful with its intellectual properties, especially after the Max Payne movie didn't do well. Besides, due to the vast scope of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, it's unlikely that movies for either of these games will hit the big screen anytime soon.
