Jumpscares Can Now Kill You in This Photorealistic Indie Horror

Along with new locations and gameplay features, improved monsters, and more.

Ahead of the impending Halloween season, indie game developer Digital Cybercherries has shared an exciting announcement that DON'T SCREAM, an Unreal Engine 5-powered horror game with realistic graphics, is leaving early access and entering the 1.0 release later this month.

Launched back in 2023 in Steam Early Access, DON'T SCREAM was among the first horror games to leverage the power of UE5 to achieve photorealistic visuals. The game's main shtick is that it requires you to play with your microphone on and remain silent while surviving 18 minutes in a creepy forest filled to the brim with all sorts of twisted jumpscares. The premise of DON'T SCREAM is simple – don't scream, for if you do, the game is over, and you have to restart your 18-minute ordeal from the beginning.

Despite receiving Mixed reviews on Steam, the game found success with streamers and fans of the indie horror genre, generating nearly $1 million in gross revenue within the first two weeks of its early access launch. Now, DON'T SCREAM is gearing up for a relaunch, with developers planning to address some of the issues players have criticized and introduce brand-new gameplay features, improved performance and pacing, and enhanced jumpscares.

Perhaps the most significant addition is the ability to die, as some jumpscares are now more dangerous and can kill a careless player. The 1.0 release is also set to introduce dozens of new locations, an overhauled user interface, improved microphone calibration, redesigned sound for a more immersive experience, and more.

The game is exiting early access on October 28, 2024. You can check out the full list of 1.0 changes by visiting DON'T SCREAM's Steam page.
