A few days ago, Axios interviewed Raul Fernandez at the LCS Summer Finals and found out that League of Legends not only doesn't exactly pay the bills but also has drops in viewership.
As Riot Games' senior director of Esports Operations says, it can be explained by taking some time, "trying to find their footing", and freshening up their league.
Also, it's important to note that while the company is trying to find its way, a 21.8% decrease in viewership has been spotted during the LCS Summer Finals compared to the LCS Spring Finals. Peak viewers decreased from 271,376 to 223,943 correspondingly.

Even though the drop in viewership is significant, Raul Fernandez assures that: "The LCS is in a very healthy position financially because of this sustained and continued support from both external partners, the team side, from sponsors, as well as internally."
Raul Fernandez also stated that one of the challenges faced by League of Legends is its inherent complexity. As the game has received continuous updates for over a decade, it has become increasingly intricate and features a vast roster of over 100 playable characters. This complexity can make it more challenging for players to fully comprehend and navigate the game.
Anyway, Fernandez expressed his enthusiasm for the potential and future of esports, particularly for LCS, despite the challenges faced by Riot throughout the year.
