Learn How This Impressive Parallax Effect Was Created in Blender

MatMADNESS showcased a neat Parallax effect and showed how it was made with Blender's shader nodes.

Digital Artist known only as MatMADNESS has recently impressed thousands of people over on Reddit by showcasing an absolutely astonishing Parallax effect created 100% in Blender using the software's shader nodes.

Described as "just a plane with four vertices" by the author, the effect in question was achieved by adapting an Unreal Engine 3 node setup for Parallax to Blender. According to the creator, his version of this approach to creating depth in Blender is much lighter than Displacement mapping and works with both Cycles and Eevee.

"It is not really that complex, I basically use the reflection vector to find the perspective relative to the camera, and then I multiply it by the displacement map to define the height, and finally, I add the UV map. Put everything inside a node group and voilà, it's done," commented the creator on how the effect was set up." Also, if you duplicate the displacement map and parallax node multiple times, using the vector from the previous ones for the subsequent ones, they'll work as multiple steps, improving the quality of the effect."
