The Counter-Strike: Source mod can be downloaded now.
A playable Left 4 Dead prototype has been leaked online. Zombie City, a Counter-Strike: Source mod, was in development by Turtle Rock Studios, and the early version is now available if you'd like to try it out. Just don't expect much – it doesn't have zombies, so you'll have to shoot terrorists trying to get you in close range.
As mentioned by PC Gamer, Turtle Rock founder Michael Booth discussed the idea behind Left 4 Dead and its connection to Counter-Strike earlier:
"While we were developing bots for Counter-Strike: Source we discovered that a few of us armed to the teeth with automatic weaponry against 30 knife-wielding enemy bots was a lot of fun. After shipping Counter-Strike: Source in late 2004 we started experimenting with new game prototypes. That basic kernel of 'small team of friends against hordes of clawing enemies' was something we kept coming back to and we soon realized that the 'co-op vs the horde game' had a ton of potential."
The prototype uploaded by Wolfcl0ck is a part of a bigger map sources folder that appeared online. The uploader fixed the textures, generated a navmesh, and added a level description.
