Lifelike Forest Stream Simulation in Houdini & Unreal Engine 5

Edoardo Maragno showcased a great real-time sim made with Houdini's FLIP.

Take a look at this spectacular real-time rivulet simulation created by 3D Generalist and Junior FX Artist Edoardo Maragno using a combination of SideFX's procedural 3D software, Houdini, and Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5.

According to the creator, the sim was set up for a bigger project, currently WIP, to test out FLIP (Fluid Implicit Particles) in Houdini. "Unreal Engine comes in very handy for this type of quick/small projects, and I can't wait to test SVTs next," commented the author. "Given the limitations of a real-time renderer, I truly believe these two pieces of software bridged together allow for some sweet eye-candies."

The author has also shared a closer look at the Custom Velocity Field created for the simulation:

We also recommend checking out a detailed breakdown shared with us by Victor Reguera earlier this year, where he explained how the Houdini+UE5 combo can be utilized to create a realistic river simulation, complete with waves and whitewater particles.
