The plug-in allows you to track warping surfaces inside After Effects.
Chris Vranos has released Lockdown 3 – the latest version of the After Effects plug-in that allows you to track warping surfaces.
Lockdown 3 lets you export 3D tracking data to Cinema 4D and other 3D applications, attach objects in 3D, and relight your mesh. This release adds a new tab for the 3D workflow, a depth estimator, a new 3D planar tracker, a 'rigid' tracking algorithm, a depth rendering output mode, and a 3D preview rendering mode in the After Effects composition.
Turning 2D into 3D is one of the most interesting features of the tool. The developers used a depth estimator to create this information, and you can edit the depth map yourself. "Just set your field of view and crank up the depth slider until it looks about right."
Exporting tracking data to the After Effects timeline has been improved "because sometimes you don't need a whole mesh."
Lockdown 3 now comes with Composite Brush, a tool for keying and color correction that allows creating smooth keys on flat backgrounds of any color, and Paint Link, which creates a dynamic connection between After Effects and Photoshops so you can send a frame to Photoshop, paint on it, and it then returns to After Effects.
Both these tools cost $250 separately, so it's a great deal for AE enthusiasts.
Lockdown 3 is usually available for $399.99, but you can get it for $299.99 until July 23, so hurry up, grab a copy here.
