Mario and Castlevania Played on a Holographic Display

This cool plug-in allows you to play NES games on Looking Glass Factory's holographic display.

Game Designer Seth A. Robinson has unveiled HoloVCS, a new plug-in that allows playing such timeless classics as Super Mario Bros. and Castlevania using a holographic display. For those who don't know, there is a company called Looking Glass Factory that develops a special device that can turn photos into holograms. The device is compatible with Blender, Unity, and Unreal Engine via the company's plug-ins, thus allowing anyone to create their own interactive 3D holograms. You can learn more and get the device here.

With Seth's plug-in, it is possible to play such NES games as Super Mario Bros. and Castlevania and Atari 2600's Pitfall! on this display, giving the games a holographic effect. Other NES games can also be run but they won’t have any depth/3D effects. According to the plug-in's developer, to run this you will need LGF's Looking Glass Portrait, connected to a Windows computer via HDMI, the Holoplay driver, a strong graphics card, and a game ROM (.a26 or .nes file) which needs to be put in the /atari2600 directory folder or /nes directory folder, depending on the system it’s for. The NES games, Seth comments, run at 60 FPS.
