The game designer shared that he loves the work environment he is in so he wouldn't mind staying in a similar place after he passes away.
Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has been with Nintendo for over 45 years, so it's almost unimaginable to envision the publisher without the veteran director and designer. However, according to Miyamoto himself, fans shouldn't worry as most likely nothing is going to change for the company without him.
In a recent interview with NPR, the game designer was asked about what would happen with Nintendo if he's no longer with the company. Miyamoto replied that everything is "probably going to be the same." According to him, both the executive team and various creators within the company share a similar understanding of what it means to be Nintendo. Therefore, even in his absence, there would not be a significant change in the company's direction or approach.
He also added that even when Nintendo introduces new ideas, everyone is still on the same page.
"So even when there's new ideas that come up, there's always the fact that it's a new idea, but also the fact that, is it a new idea that really has the essence of Nintendo or not?" Miyamoto said. "And I think that's something that, you know – we have this incredible shared vision, almost a little scary shared vision, about this. So I think there won't – it's not going to change."
When asked about which of the world Miyamoto created he would like to live in his afterlife, he responded that he would prefer to remain at Nintendo.
"I really love the work environment that I'm in because I get to engage in so many different things," he said, jokingly adding that he wouldn't mind staying in a similar place after he passes away, but perhaps at his desk or in his bathtub instead.
