Microsoft Gaming CEO To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

The award will be given to Phil Spencer by Todd Howard – game director and executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios.

The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) announced that Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, will receive the AIAS Lifetime Achievement Award at the 25th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards ceremony on 24th February. Bethesda Game Studios game director and executive producer Todd Howard will present the award to Spencer. The award is given to "individuals whose accomplishments span a broad range of disciplines over a lengthy career in the industry."

Spencer has been in the industry for over 30 years. Since joining Microsoft in 1988, he has overseen multiple Xbox launches, including Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, and Xbox Series X|S. With him overseeing some of the company's key acquisitions, including Mojang, ZeniMedia, and Activision Blizzard, the company has grown substantially.

"Phil Spencer has demonstrated both passion and leadership throughout his entire career at Microsoft. He’s responsible for countless impactful and pivotal initiatives that have reverberated throughout the entire gaming industry," said AIAS president Meggan Scavio. "On behalf of the Academy’s Board of Directors, we are looking forward to celebrating Spencer’s important impact on video game history by presenting him with our Lifetime Achievement Award."

Previously, the Lifetime Achievement Award was given to former bosses of Nintendo of America Minoru Arakawa and Howard Lincoln, Ken Kutaragi, 'The Father of PlayStation' and former CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, the founder of Entertainment Software Association Doug Lowenstein, former EA CCO Bing Gordon, former Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, and Nintendo corporate advisor Genyo Takeda.
